Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter accused anti-corruption initiatives of targeting Kalenjin community members in 2019, alleging the campaigns favor political interests ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
Keter addressed Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji, urging them to avoid politicizing graft investigations. "We should not weaponize corruption but instead fight it with all the energy and information we have," he stated. He questioned why the anti-graft campaign appears to favor one side, asking, "Is someone in control?"
The 2019 remarks align with criticisms from politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto, who have accused authorities of using investigations to advance political agendas. Keter, a known critic of Ruto, has not clarified whether his comments reflect a shift in stance on the ongoing anti-graft drive. The 2012 political landscape remains relevant as these allegations resurface ahead of the 2022 elections.
