Residents took to platforms like Twitter to express their confusion and disappointment, with many questioning whether the sculpture depicted a lion, tiger, or an entirely different animal. The statue, part of Sonko's city beautification initiative, drew immediate backlash for its unconventional appearance.
Among the most vocal critics was Pinky Ghelani, who tweeted: 'No… just no… no thank you!' while Laura Walubengo asked: 'Why, Sonko, why?' Others mocked the sculpture's design, with one user comparing it to 'Shimba wa Yoda' (a reference to the Star Wars character Yoda).
