Sign language interpreter Youla Nzale became an internet sensation after her dynamic performance during President Uhuru Kenyatta's address at the Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga on March 6, 2019.

Nzale, who works as a sign language interpreter for Citizen TV's prime-time news, captivated audiences with her animated facial expressions and emotional engagement during the speech. Her work underscored the importance of conveying both verbal and emotional nuances to deaf viewers.

In an interview, Nzale described her approach: "My emotions aligned with the president’s tone. I focused on capturing moments when he appeared serious or sad. Deaf individuals rely on facial expressions rather than lip-reading or hearing." She emphasized the need for interpreters to mirror speakers' emotional states, stating, "An interpreter must reflect happiness when the speaker is happy, sadness when the speaker is sad, and confusion when the speaker is confused."

The event generated significant online attention, with 10 notable images of Nzale's performance circulating widely across social media platforms.
