A man accused of killing his girlfriend and burning her body appeared in Eldoret court Wednesday, where his defense requested a psychiatric evaluation.
David Siloba Achala, 37, did not enter a plea after his attorney Alfred Nyairo argued the defendant had a history of mental health issues. Nyairo stated Siloba was diagnosed with a psychiatric condition in 2011 and had been undergoing treatment, though he had recently stopped taking medication.
Police allege Siloba fatally stabbed Fiona Kisuya, 25, at their Kapsoya Estate home before setting her body ablaze. A neighbor, Aaron Kibyiego, testified that Siloba asked for help disposing of the corpse, claiming he had killed his wife. Kibyiego refused and alerted authorities, leading to Siloba's arrest.
Court records show Siloba returned from the United States last month, with reports indicating he had been deported. Eldoret East police commander John Owuoth described the crime scene as gruesome, noting the victim's throat had been slit and one hand severed. Officers struggled to recover the partially burned body from a rubbish pit.
Neighbors recounted ongoing conflicts between the couple, including a recent public altercation where Siloba pulled Kisuya's hair near Kapsoya center. The case is scheduled for further hearing on March 14.
