Chuka elders have escalated tensions over the proposed Igambang’ombe Sub-County boundary, alleging political interference and threatening legal action. The dispute involves local leaders, the Ministry of Interior, and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), with elders claiming the new boundary encroaches on Chuka territory.
Speaking in Ndagani Township on Wednesday, a group including youth and women leaders accused politicians of manipulating boundaries to fracture the Chuka community. Isaac Mugo, chairman of the elders’ coalition, stated they would oppose the gazetted sub-county creation until their concerns are resolved. He cited correspondence with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I, the IEBC, and the local MP seeking resolution.
Njuri Ncheke elders Eustace Muturi and Gerishon Kabiti emphasized their role as boundary custodians, rejecting political influence over administrative divisions. Kabiti warned that politician-driven boundaries risked communal conflict, while Muturi noted existing divisions caused by past boundary decisions. Both stressed the need for public consultation before finalizing such changes.
