President Uhuru Kenyatta has submitted Prof George Magoha's name for confirmation as Education Cabinet Secretary, granting the National Assembly 21 days to act.
The nomination follows Ms Amina Mohamed's departure from the ministry, which was attributed to leadership shortcomings. Mohamed transitioned to the Sports portfolio, succeeding Mr Rashid Echesa, who was removed over management controversies.
House Speaker Justin Muturi announced the 21-day window for parliamentary review, with a deadline of March 26. The Education Committee, led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, will assess the former University of Nairobi vice chancellor's credentials and submit a report within 14 days.
Senior lawmakers have emphasized Magoha's qualifications for the role, citing his academic expertise and administrative experience. The committee's findings will determine whether the full assembly proceeds with formal approval.
