The 2019 Beyond Zero Half Marathon will attract more than 20,000 runners, including athletes with intellectual and visual impairments, according to organizers.
The event, now in its fourth edition, incorporates international standards for 21km and 10km road races. A Paralympic race will begin at 6:30 a.m., followed by the 21km half marathon at 7 a.m.
Organizer Gacheru emphasized the inclusion of a 2km pregnant walk and shared race routes for all categories. Athletics Kenya President Rtd. General Jackson Tuwei confirmed full preparations, citing finalized routes, security measures, and expanded categories to promote inclusivity.
Prize money totals Ksh 350,000, with Ksh 250,000 awarded to 21km elite winners and Ksh 100,000 for 10km victors. Additional categories include wheelchair and tricycle races, as well as a family fun run.
The Paralympic team will use the event as a pre-qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Games. Over 2,000 staff and 300 volunteers will support the marathon, which will involve 21km and 10km races alongside adaptive categories.
