The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) successfully rescued infant Tamara, who had been unlawfully taken from her father, Timon Makswell, and placed in the care of her maternal relatives. The child was recovered in the Saika area of Nairobi County, where police detained two suspects involved in the custody conflict.
Makswell shared details of the ordeal on social media, stating that his wife's family had taken Tamara in October 2018 after his wife's death. He alleged that they refused to return the child despite his requests, claiming they sought financial compensation from his in-laws. 'I knew Rena was trying to hide the child, but I couldn't let anyone take our child,' Makswell said in a Facebook post.
The DCI confirmed in a Twitter statement: ' Dear #KOT, Detectives from the Child Protection Unit have rescued #BabyTamara & arrested two culprits. The baby is in safe hands & the two suspects are in lawful custody and will be arraigned in court tomorrow. Thank you all for bringing this to our attention.'
Makswell claimed police initially obstructed his efforts to retrieve Tamara, but the DCI launched an urgent investigation after public pressure. The case has sparked widespread social media campaigns under the hashtag #JusticeForBabyTamara, demanding accountability from authorities.
