Private jet travel has become a symbol of extreme wealth among Kenya's affluent class, according to the 2019 Knight Frank Wealth Report. The data shows a significant increase in luxury aircraft movements from the East African nation to international destinations.
European countries dominated the routes, with the United Kingdom accounting for 17% of all private jet flights originating in Kenya. Italy followed at 15%, while Greece recorded 10% of these high-end travel movements.
Other notable destinations included South Africa (9%), Nigeria (5%), and Israel, Cyprus, and Ukraine each at 4%. Ugandan and Portuguese routes also featured in the top 10, each claiming 4% of the total flights.
A report representative acknowledged the data's limitations, stating, "We have only recorded the private jet flight activity from Kenya. We cannot confirm whether the aircraft are owned by Kenyan nationals or foreign residents." The publication declined to specify the exact number of operators or their nationalities.
