Raila Odinga called on public servants to step down if implicated in corruption, demanding accountability for mismanagement within their departments during a devolution conference in Kirinyaga. The opposition leader emphasized that the fight against graft must remain nonpartisan, warning against political interference in ongoing investigations.
Odinga criticized politicians for using corruption allegations as a political tool, accusing them of diverting attention from systemic issues through 'sideshow' distractions. He reiterated that all individuals, regardless of position, should face consequences for wrongdoing, stating, 'Everyone must carry their own cross when caught in the act.'
The former prime minister also urged governors to prioritize implementation of the Jubilee administration's Agenda 4, while appealing to civil society, youth groups, and women's organizations to actively participate in anti-corruption efforts. He blamed entrenched graft for economic stagnation, asserting that 'corrupt actors have destabilized the country.'
