AFC Leopards are exploring the appointment of Stanley Okumbi as technical director, according to club sources. The former Harambee Stars coach, who last led the national team in 2018, is under consideration amid the club's struggles in the Kenyan Premier League.
Okumbi, who previously coached Mathare United and Kariobangi Sharks without notable success, currently oversees the national U-20 team. A club official stated, 'Okumbi is our own with experience to strengthen our technical bench. A decision will be made after Saturday’s match against Tusker.'
The struggling side, currently 16th in the 18-team league with three wins from 15 games, plans to sign six players ahead of the March 11 transfer window. Potential additions include Rwandan midfielder Rachid Kalissa, Harambee Stars defender David 'Cheche' Ochieng, and a Gabonese striker.
The proposed appointment could also lead to the dismissal of assistant coach Tom Juma, who has supported new manager Casa Mbungo.
