Royal Air Maroc, Morocco's national carrier, suspended its Nairobi-Casablanca-Ndjamena route on March 2, 2019, marking the end of a three-year operation. The airline attributed the move to a strategic realignment following market analysis of evolving air travel trends.
Country manager Othman Baba stated the decision reflected "the need to reposition" the airline amid shifting preferences in regional connectivity. The service, launched in April 2016, had become the 33rd African destination for the carrier.
"We aim to return to the East African market in a more robust manner once our reorganization is complete," Baba said, though no timeline was provided for potential resumption. The airline had previously planned expansions to five additional East African cities.
The Nairobi-Ndjamena route remained unique as the only direct service between North Africa and Chad's capital from the Moroccan carrier.
