Detectives from Kenya's Child Protection Unit have recovered Baby Tamara and detained two individuals in connection with a custody dispute, according to a report. The officers confirmed the child is now under safe custody.

The case gained attention after Timon Makswell, the child's father, alleged that four police officers ordered him to surrender Tamara at gunpoint in March 2019. Makswell claimed he was threatened with lethal force when he refused, leading to his arrest and the child's removal.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had previously urged Makswell to file a formal complaint, promising an investigation. Two suspects are set to appear in court on Thursday.

Makswell's account detailed a prolonged conflict with his late wife Rena's family. Rena, who died in October 2018 from liver complications following a C-section, had reportedly insisted her daughter not be taken by relatives. Makswell claimed his in-laws sought to seize Tamara, alleging the child was HIV-positive—a claim he denied.
The dispute escalated after Rena's death, with her family reportedly attempting to take the child. Makswell alleged threats from Rena's aunt, Annette Kimuomi, and involvement from police officers linked to the DCI. He described being detained at a police station in Kayole, where he was pressured to relinquish Tamara.
