Olympic 800m champion David Rudisha confirmed he is progressing through physical conditioning as he works to regain full fitness following a 12-month absence from competition due to injury.

The Kenyan star revealed he has been focusing on strength training while managing weight gain during his recovery period. "I'm currently building up my physical capacity after adding some mass during the off-season," Rudisha stated. "My immediate goal is to complete two to three months of quality preparation before resuming competitive racing."

Despite acknowledging the psychological challenges of injury, Rudisha expressed confidence in his ability to return to peak performance. "Injuries are an unavoidable risk in sports, but I've learned to accept them as part of the journey," he said. "My focus remains on gradual rehabilitation rather than rushing the process."

Rudisha also commented on the rising talent in Kenyan middle-distance running. "The 800m is a mentally demanding event, and I'm encouraged by the progress of younger athletes," he noted. "Seeing runners achieve sub-1:43 times while I'm sidelined shows the sport's growth."

The four-time world champion praised Athletics Kenya's regional development initiatives, particularly events held outside Nairobi. "Bringing competitions to cities like Eldoret makes athletics more accessible to local fans," Rudisha said. "This approach strengthens community engagement with the sport."
