Kenya's High Commissioner to Pakistan, Professor Julius Bitok, has categorically denied allegations circulating on social media that he was arrested in Islamabad over claims of defiling a minor. The envoy, speaking to the Star, described the reports as 'malicious and fake news' and emphasized his freedom from custody.
Bitok accused political opponents in Uasin Gishu County of orchestrating the false narrative to undermine his reputation ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial elections. 'I am a free man in Islamabad and have no connection to such allegations,' he stated, adding that the claims were an attempt to divert attention from his diplomatic duties.
The envoy, who served as a gubernatorial candidate in 2013 before losing to Jackson Mandago, reiterated his commitment to ethical conduct. 'I hold myself and my country in high esteem,' he said. His current role as Kenya's ambassador to Pakistan since 2014 has coincided with expanded trade relations between the two nations.
With Mandago nearing the end of his second term, Bitok is emerging as a potential contender for the Uasin Gishu governorship. However, he dismissed speculation about political ambitions, stating, 'The President has instructed us to focus on our work. Those seeking to destabilize me will fail.'
Other potential successors to Mandago include Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar and Kesses MP Dr. Swarrup Mishra, according to the report.
