Five suspected robbers were fatally shot by police during a confrontation at Allsops on Thika Road on Tuesday night. The incident occurred after the group allegedly stole a handbag containing cash from a M-Pesa shop owner.
Witness Pius Kamau described the events, stating the suspects attempted to flee the scene before being cornered by officers. 'They had snatched the handbag from a woman and as they tried to flee from the scene, police officers cornered and shot them dead,' he said.
Investigations revealed one suspect was connected to a string of thefts across Kiambu and Nairobi Counties. The individual was known to use a vehicle with frequently changed license plates to evade detection after committing crimes.
Local authorities noted the suspect had prior arrests for possessing counterfeit license plates and a police radio, though he was subsequently released. The case highlights ongoing challenges in addressing organized robbery networks in the region.
