A car hire agent has filed legal claims against comedian Eric Omondi for Sh20,800 in parking fines after abandoning a rented vehicle at Nairobi's Moi International Airport in January 2019.
Wambui Wambui, who operates a car rental service, reported that Omondi hired a vehicle on January 16 for a three-day period. The comedian allegedly parked the car illegally on a yellow line, left the keys underneath, and failed to contact her upon returning from his trip on January 19.
According to Wambui, airport police towed the vehicle after monitoring it from morning until 11 pm on January 19. She identified herself as the owner when contacted about the impoundment. Omondi admitted to forgetting to reach out due to a late flight but refused to pay the resulting fees.
The incident resulted in Sh15,400 in parking fines, Sh7,500 towing charges, Sh5,000 obstruction penalties, and Sh2,900 for five days of vehicle detention. Wambui also claimed she lost five days of business opportunities due to the incident.
Despite multiple attempts to contact Omondi, the comedian has not responded to calls or messages. Wambui shared WhatsApp conversation screenshots with the Buyer Beware Facebook group, showing Omondi promised to settle the debt but has not done so.
