The Nairobi County government and the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (Kuco) finalized an agreement on Monday to end a four-day strike by clinical officers. The pact, signed by health chief officer Mohammed Sahal, county secretary Pauline Kahiga, Kuco Nairobi secretary Tom Nyakaba, and Kuco chair Reuben Raboso, mandates the union to halt the strike starting March 4.
Kahiga confirmed that some officers resumed work on Monday afternoon, with others set to return on Tuesday. The agreement establishes a six-member committee comprising union and government representatives to resolve outstanding disputes within 30 days. The county government also committed to signing a recognition agreement with Kuco under the Labour Relations Act 2007 within seven days of March 4.
Key provisions include confirming probationary clinical officers under the Employment Act 2007, reassigning those with additional professional qualifications, and replacing the expiring AAR medical cover with comprehensive NHIF coverage. The deal follows a March 1 meeting with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who stated most grievances fell under the County Public Service Board’s jurisdiction.
