Chavakali High has been grouped with rivals Vihiga High, Esalwa, Kaptik, and Essong’olo in Pool 'A' for the Vihiga County Secondary Schools Term One rugby tournaments set to begin tomorrow. The competition, concluding on Saturday, will determine teams advancing to the western regional championship in Vihiga later this month.
Nyangori leads Pool 'B' alongside Ebulonga, Ematsuli, Kivagala, and Masana. In rugby 15s, Vihiga High faces Hobunaka, Nyang’ori, Busali Union, and Emusire in Pool 'A,' while Mbale, Ebusiloli, Kaimosi, Kegoye, and Ekwanda compete in Pool 'B.'
Chavakali, which earned silver at the East African Championship in Rwanda last year, aims to evaluate new players and team fitness during the event. Coach Peter Simwa acknowledged the pressure of hosting but urged players to embrace challenges. 'We are favorites, but we must treat every match as a final to secure national and East African titles,' he stated.
Simwa emphasized discipline, warning against complacency. 'The team must remain focused and avoid overconfidence to achieve their goal of returning to the East Africa stage,' he added.
