On July 30, 2019, MediaTek announced two new chipsets, the Helio G90 and G90T, aimed at budget gaming phones. The Taiwanese chipmaker claims to have achieved the right balance for optimum gaming performance.

One of the key areas of concern for gaming phones has been the weak GPU performance of MediaTek chipsets. However, the Helio G90 and G90T seem to have addressed this issue, according to MediaTek.

To demonstrate the performance of the G90 chipset, MediaTek shared results from Geekbench and AnTuTu benchmarks. On Geekbench 4.3, the Helio G90 paired with 6GB RAM and Android 9 scored 7193 points in multi-core tests, which is a significant achievement.

These results place the Helio G90 chipsets close to equal performance as the Snapdragon 845 chipsets from the previous year. However, it's worth noting that these tests were conducted in April, and the chipset may have been further optimized since then.

Additionally, the fact that the RAM pairing can go up to 10GB should also contribute to changing the performance scores.

On AnTuTu, the Helio G90 scored an impressive 222,282, which is a combination of CPU, GPU, UX, and memory performance. This score is comparable to devices powered by the Snapdragon 730, such as the Xiaomi Mi 9T.

While these early benchmarks are promising, it remains to be seen how the chipset will perform in an actual gaming environment.
