Bungoma teacher Chrispinus Wanyonyi appeared in court on Tuesday facing murder charges over the alleged beating death of 16-year-old Bethwel Ogola at Bishop Atundo High School.
The incident occurred during a math revision class on February 11 when Wanyonyi reportedly struck Ogola, causing him to fall and sustain a head injury. The student was hospitalized in Kanduyi and later transferred to Bungoma West Hospital, where he died on March 3 after a prolonged coma.
Ogola's family stated their son was struck at the back of his head by the teacher, demanding justice for his death. The court granted prosecutors seven days to complete their investigation, with the case scheduled for mention on March 13.
Separately, suspects Timothy Kiptai and Zakayo Ngeiywo, linked to the 2018 Mt Elgon killings, reappeared in court under heavy security after previously refusing to attend. They face murder, rape, and robbery charges, with their case set for a May 7 hearing.
