On March 5, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) saw the banking sector account for over 54.99% of the day’s trading volume, amounting to Ksh179 million. Total turnover reached Ksh325 million, up from Ksh273 million in the previous session.
Despite the overall decline in stock volume—from 28 million to 11 million shares—bond transactions totaled Ksh2.4 billion. The NSE 20 share index fell 5.31 points to 2907.39, while the All Share Index (NASI) rose 0.02 points to 153.70. The NSE 25 Share index dropped 2.69 points to 3827.02.
NSE Gainers and Decliners ¶
Safaricom led trading volume with 4.2 million shares at Ksh26.50 each. Equity Group and KCB Group followed with 1.9 million and 1.4 million shares, respectively. Kenya Airways and Co-operative Bank traded 933,500 and 481,500 shares.
Olympia Capital Holdings surged 9.54% to Ksh2.64, while Longhorn Kenya gained 6.21% to Ksh6.50. TPS Eastern Africa rose 5% to Ksh21. Trans-Century and KCB Group rounded out the top gainers. Kenya Airways fell 5.65%, and Flame Tree Group declined 5.67% to Ksh2.33.

The Commercial & Services sector traded Ksh6.6 million, representing 2.04% of total volume. Construction & Allied sector transactions totaled Ksh7.7 million (2.38%). Insurance sector activity reached Ksh6 million (1.85%). Manufacturing and Allied sector shares amounted to Ksh5.67 million, while the Telecommunication sector traded 4.2 million shares valued at Ksh112 million.
