CAF has appointed Botswana referee Joshua Bondo to oversee Kenya's final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana, despite a history of contentious decisions. The match, scheduled for March 23, will take place at Accra Sports Stadium with both teams already qualified for the tournament in Egypt.
Bondo, 41, has officiated high-profile events including the 2016 Chan finals and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. However, his career has been marked by controversy, notably being sent home from the 2017 Cosafa Cup after a disputed decision in a Zimbabwe-Madagascar match. He also faced allegations of headbutting an Angolan player during a South Africa-Angola friendly that year.
The referee will be supported by Botswana assistants Meshack Medupi and Moemedi Godfrey Monakwane, with Tshepo Mokani Gobagoga as fourth official. Kenya's Harambee Stars aim to top Group F, having previously lost 1-0 to Ghana in September 2018. Ghana's coach Kwasi Appiah seeks revenge for the defeat.
