Seven individuals were killed in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo on Tuesday, with three victims reportedly attacked using machetes, according to local officials.
In Butembo, two soldiers were fatally wounded during a dawn assault by Mai-Mai militia on a military camp, as reported by the Congolese armed forces via Twitter.
The military stated that one attacker was killed and two soldiers died in the conflict, using the traditional term "field of honour" to describe the fatalities.
Butembo, a major city in North Kivu province, has long faced militia-related violence and is currently dealing with a seven-month-old Ebola outbreak.
In Goma, the provincial capital, one individual was found shot dead in the Ndosho district, while three bodies were discovered mutilated in the Majengo district, according to deputy public prosecutor Claver Kahasa.
Goma Mayor Timothee Muissa confirmed that the perpetrators remain unidentified.
Since the start of the year, approximately 30 people have died in attacks in Goma, according to an AFP tally.
