Kisii County's Term One inter-school sports games will bring together 120 participating institutions at Sameta High School, according to organizers. The event, scheduled to begin Wednesday, will include 140 contracted referees and multiple venues across the region.
Officials completed a coordination clinic on Tuesday at Sameta playing grounds, with teams set to arrive for competition on Wednesday. The games will serve as qualifiers for the Nyanza Region Games at Homa Bay High School from March 16 to 20, 2019, before advancing to the National Term One Games in Mombasa.
Geoffrey Nyantika, secretary of the Kisii Secondary Schools Sports Association, stated that the event will include basketball, hockey, rugby sevens and 15s, handball, swimming, athletics, and cross-country. He noted that participation has grown significantly since last year's event, which saw 1,800 students from over 100 schools.
Sameta High School grounds will host the main competitions, with additional matches held at Sameta Stadium and Tendere grounds. The regional games will determine qualifiers for the national stage, which is set for April 2019.
