A study conducted by researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada reveals a correlation between higher fertility rates and slower cellular aging in women, challenging established theories about reproductive biology.
The investigation analyzed telomere length in 75 participants across two measurements taken 13 years apart using salivary specimens and buccal swabs. Telomeres, protective structures at the ends of chromosomes, serve as biomarkers for cellular aging, with longer lengths indicating greater cellular resilience.
Pablo Nepomnaschy, lead author of the study, noted that women with more children demonstrated a slower rate of telomere shortening.
