President Uhuru Kenyatta has directly addressed political figures accused of obstructing state institutions tasked with combating graft, urging them to cease undermining investigative efforts. Speaking at the 6th Annual Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga County, he emphasized the need for unity in the fight against corruption, which he described as a critical barrier to national progress.
The President highlighted his administration's proactive measures, including asset recovery programs and preventive strategies, to protect public resources. He specifically criticized leaders who spread false allegations at social events, stating, "There is no need to move around funerals spreading falsehoods, how will the dead help you?"
Kenyatta called on citizens to report corruption allegations directly to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, asserting, "Any person with information is free to visit DCI offices and record statements." He also reaffirmed his support for judicial efficiency, stressing that "the wheels of justice in the corruption war must move with speed."
The speech framed the anti-graft campaign as a "generational struggle" requiring collective action. Kenyatta challenged governors to prioritize accountability, stating, "We must emphatically say no to corruption within our governments." He announced plans for a leaders' forum to address public fund utilization, aiming to shift focus from personal expenditures to development priorities.
Deputy President William Ruto supported the President's stance, emphasizing the Big 4 Agenda's alignment with devolution goals. Other speakers, including Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, endorsed the administration's approach, noting progress in grassroots economic activities and agricultural value addition.
