Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has publicly criticized Deputy President William Ruto for politicizing ongoing anti-corruption efforts, specifically targeting allegations of financial mismanagement in two major infrastructure projects.
The remarks came during a funeral service in Murang’a on March 5, 2019, where Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement, urged Ruto to allow investigative agencies to complete their work without political interference. He emphasized the need for patience in examining claims that billions of shillings were lost in contracts for the Kimwarer and Arror dams.
"I would like to advise my brother William to stop denying corruption exists entirely," Musyoka stated. "The President’s legacy depends on these investigations being completed without constant criticism of the DCI and DPP." He also questioned why the Kenyan government had not sought Italian authorities’ assistance in investigating the collapse of a company that received Sh536 million upfront for the projects before going bankrupt in 2012.
The former VP’s comments highlight growing tensions within Kenya’s political landscape over the handling of high-profile corruption cases, with opposition figures calling for transparency in public procurement processes.
