Nana Gecaga, CEO of the Kenya Industrial and Commercial Court (KICC), has shared insights into her experiences as a single mother of three while emphasizing the importance of financial preparedness for children's futures.
In an interview, Gecaga revealed details about her children: Udi, 5.5; Jomo, 3.5; and Kenya-Uhuru, 1.5. She described their distinct personalities, noting Udi's protective nature, Jomo's humor, and Kenya-Uhuru's energetic presence.
"MOTHERHOOD IS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME. IT PUT EVERYTHING INTO PERSPECTIVE AND MADE ME A COMPLETE PERSON. WHEN MAKING DECISIONS, I DO NOT RUSH BECAUSE I HAVE THREE OTHER PEOPLE TO THINK OF. MY A TEAM. I THANK GOD EVERY DAY FOR MY THREE MUNCHKINS."
Gecaga advised single parents to prioritize savings, stating: "Having one present parent is better than having none. Open savings accounts for each child and put in something every month." She also urged parents to avoid self-blame, emphasizing that a single involved parent provides stability.
"LASTLY, DON’T FORGET YOU ARE DOING THIS ALONE AND SOMETIMES IT MEANS ONE SOURCE OF INCOME, NOT TWO. SO START SAVING TODAY. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES ARE, SAVE."
