Emmanuel Otieno, widely recognized as Jadudi, died at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu on March 4, 2019, after a prolonged battle with brain cancer, according to a statement from the Africa Cancer Foundation (ACF).
The foundation described Jadudi as a "Shujaa" (hero) and expressed sorrow over his passing, stating, "May God rest his soul in eternal peace and comfort his family. ACF mourns Jadudi." The statement confirmed his death occurred Monday night.
Jadudi gained national attention in 2015 when journalist Jackson Biko highlighted his struggle with a brain tumor that required seven surgeries. Biko’s blog post, The thing in Jadudi’s head, sparked a fundraising campaign that raised 6.4 million Kenyan shillings in two days.
However, the campaign faced scrutiny when it was revealed that the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) had already covered Jadudi’s medical expenses. The ACF, which managed the donations, did not clarify how the funds were allocated, according to reports.
