Henry Rotich, chair of Kiambu County's Executive Committee, has been suspended following an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) into alleged financial misconduct. The probe centers on 21 billion shillings in unexplained funds tied to a 2017 infrastructure project in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to police sources, Rotich was seen entering the DCI office to address allegations of irregularities in the project. Officials have demanded explanations for payments made to an Italian company prior to the project's initiation, as well as for bypassing the county's chief administrative officer's recommendations.

A DCI investigator stated that Rotich must account for all financial transactions related to the project, including how he accessed funds and why he disregarded official guidance. Rotich claimed the payments were made directly to the project site as part of his duties.

The investigation has intensified scrutiny of county officials involved in public procurement. Over the past months, the DCI has launched multiple probes into alleged mismanagement of public resources, with several officials facing disciplinary action.
