The Kenyan National Sevens Rugby team, Shujaa, has been placed in a competitive Pool B for the 2019 Vancouver 7s leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, facing former champions Fiji, Samoa, and host nation Canada.
Shujaa's campaign in the 2018/2019 series saw them finish 13th in Las Vegas with 17 points after a 24-7 semifinal loss to Spain. The team, coached by Paul Murunga, secured two wins in the Challenge Trophy stage but fell short of advancing further.
Johstone Olindi, Kenya's third-highest points scorer with 64 points in the 2018/2019 series, has been recalled for the Vancouver event. Olindi trails Vincent Onyala (77 points) and Daniel Taabu (70 points) in the team's scoring charts, with captain Jacob Ojee fourth (40 points) and Cyprian Kuto fifth (35 points).
The squad will open against Fiji on Saturday, followed by matches against Samoa and Canada. The Vancouver 7s tournament runs from March 8-10, 2019.
