Two suspects in the murder of Mary Wambui Kamangara have been granted a 14-day reprieve to appeal their conviction, following a court ruling that allowed their release on bail.
The case involves Judy Wangui, the girlfriend of the victim, and taxi driver Michael Githae, who were charged with the 2019 murder of Kamangara. The court ordered their release on bail after determining they could not be held without trial.

The murder occurred on the night of January 26-27, 2019, in the Four Ways area of Kiambu County. The suspects were reportedly seen near the Courtesy Beach Hotel with the victim's body, which was later found in Juja. Investigators noted the victim's body showed signs of distress, with her husband reportedly writing a poem to honor her memory.
Githae, owner of Mipals Travels Adventures and Hire, told police investigators he assisted Wangui in moving the body. He claimed he was not involved in the murder but helped conceal the crime.
Legal Proceedings ¶
The court heard arguments from both the prosecution and defense. Githae's lawyer requested the case be dismissed, citing insufficient evidence, while the prosecution maintained the suspects were involved in the crime. The judge ruled the suspects could be released on bail but emphasized the case would remain active.
Wangui's brother, Cliff Ombeta, requested the court consider the suspects' circumstances, arguing they should not remain in custody. However, the judge stated the court had already ruled the case could proceed.
The prosecution, represented by Jaji Meoli, argued the suspects should remain in custody until the trial concluded. The defense countered that the suspects had no history of violent crime and should be allowed to prepare their defense.
