The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed Kenya's participation in the 2020 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifiers following a 2017 draw, pitting the team against Burundi in the opening round.

First-leg matches will take place in Nairobi from July 26-28, 2019, with the return fixture in Burundi scheduled for August 2-4, 2019. A two-legged tie will determine the winner advancing to face either Tanzania or Sudan in the next stage.

The second-round matches are set for September 20-22 and October 18-20, 2019, with the final qualifier winner securing a spot in the 16-team tournament to be held in Ethiopia in January 2020.

The CHAN competition exclusively features players competing in their national leagues. Kenya has yet to qualify for the event, making this campaign a potential historic milestone.
