On a recent tour of West Pokot County, Denmark Ambassador to Kenya Mette Knudsen expressed her appreciation for President Uhuru Kenyatta's strong stance against corruption, emphasizing the need for accountability among leaders.
Speaking during the tour, Ambassador Mette called on leaders mentioned in corruption cases to step aside while the court process is ongoing, to avoid interfering with investigations.
She also urged Kenyans to remain vigilant in monitoring how County Governments are spending funds meant for devolution, citing the need for more accountability in the devolution process.
During her visit to the Masol conservancy, Ambassador Mette donated a five million shillings enterprise fund to women and encouraged the pastoralist community to engage in businesses and other income-generating activities to eradicate poverty.
She also urged the Pokot community to embrace conservation and take advantage of bursaries to educate their children.
West Pokot Governor Prof John Lonyang'apuo thanked the Denmark Government for sponsoring several projects within the County, stating that they have created a positive impact among the community.
He assured that the County Government will work with all stakeholders to ensure the projects are completed.
The Ambassador revealed that the Danish Government has initiated projects worth an estimated Ksh 15m in West Pokot County this year.
