Wiper Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticized political figures within the Jubilee Party for allegedly undermining President Uhuru Kenyatta's anti-corruption efforts, calling for full support of the administration's initiatives.
Speaking during a funeral service in Muranga Town, Musyoka expressed concern that some Jubilee members were backing those involved in corruption despite the President's anti-graft efforts. He specifically referenced the Sh21 billion dams scandal, which has sparked political tensions over alleged mismanagement in infrastructure projects.
The controversy involves allegations against legislators including Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, and others who have questioned the impartiality of corruption investigations. Musyoka rejected claims of politicization, urging politicians to let independent bodies handle the matter without interference.
He also called on the government to collaborate with Italian authorities to recover funds linked to the Kimwarer and Arror dams, following the collapse of the Italian construction firm involved. Musyoka emphasized that Kenyatta's legacy would depend on his resolve to combat corruption.
Deputy President William Ruto reiterated the government's commitment to anti-graft efforts but stressed the need for evidence-based investigations. The remarks came during the funeral for Margaret Wangechi Irungu, mother of Murang’a Senator Kang’ata Irungu.
