Former Citizen TV news presenter Joey Muthengi has shared details about a formative romantic relationship that shaped her personal journey.
In an interview, Muthengi described meeting a white man during her high school years who became a significant emotional connection. The relationship faced challenges as their lives diverged, particularly after she secured a position at Citizen TV in June 2016.
"The love of my life was a white man. I knew him since high school. We were perfect but the logistics around our lives just weren’t matching," Muthengi recalled. "We were always traveling on different time zones, different locations and I was so keen on climbing the career ladder."
The separation intensified when she discovered the man had married, learning about his new marriage through Facebook. This revelation led to extended periods of depression, with Muthengi noting her family struggled to understand her emotional distress.
"I was quite depressed for a long time. Even my family couldn’t understand and kept asking 'what is it about this guy?'" she said. Muthengi, now employed at the Voice of America radio station, has since moved forward from the experience.
