Joyce Laboso's Burial Plans Spark Debate ¶
On August 3, 2019, a debate emerged on how the burial of Joyce Laboso, the late Bomet governor, would unfold after her husband, Edwin Abonyo, announced that her remains would be interred in their Koru home, Kisumu County.
Laboso, who served as Sotik MP for nine years before winning the Bomet governor's seat in 2017, had a home in Koru, where she would be laid to rest at Kandege village on Saturday.
Residents described Dr Laboso and her husband as their good neighbours, who had contributed money towards village activities such as funerals and harambees.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, who spoke on behalf of the team organizing the burial, said Laboso would be buried on Saturday at her matrimonial home.
There will be a requiem mass at All Saints Cathedral on Thursday until 2pm, followed by the body being flown to Bomet Stadium for viewing until Friday afternoon. From there, it will be transported to Fort Tenan, where burial will take place on Saturday at 3pm.
Laboso died on Monday after a long battle with cancer.
