A Makueni man accused of assaulting his wife in a viral video was arrested on Saturday, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred on January 15 when James Muendo, reportedly intoxicated, allegedly subjected his spouse, Margaret Nthambi, to physical violence. A neighbor recorded the altercation and shared it on social media, sparking public outrage.
After evading capture for weeks, Muendo was apprehended by Mukaa police officers at his hideout. Authorities revealed they used technological means to locate him, with Makueni county commissioner Mohammed Maalim stating, "You can run but you cannot hide because police will smoke you out."
Maalim emphasized the government's commitment to addressing gender-based violence, declaring, "Defilement and rape cases and the business of beating women like a snake in the 21st century must come to an end." He added, "God has given us brains to reason and resolve our differences amicably without fighting."
