On July 31, 2019, the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth passed away due to throat cancer, but his legacy lives on through his campaign to legalize marijuana in Kenya.
Okoth believed that the growth and safe use of marijuana would boost the economy and provide jobs for the youth.
He wrote a letter to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, stating, "The proposed Bill seeks to ensure that there is regulation for growth and safe use of marijuana and hemp including the registration of growers, producers, manufacturers and users with special focus on protection of children/minors from illicit use just as we do with tobacco and alcohol,"
Fast forward to 2019, Nairobi Governor Esther Passaris has joined the bandwagon, supporting the legalization of medicinal marijuana.
Medical marijuana uses the marijuana plant or chemicals in it to treat diseases or conditions, and it is essentially the same product as recreational marijuana, but taken for medical purposes.
