Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board chairman Francis Muthaura has denied social media reports alleging that Commissioner General John Njiraini was barred from accessing his office, stating the official remains in position until his term expires in June 2019.
"The transition will be handled in an orderly manner," Muthaura said, emphasizing that Njiraini's tenure will conclude according to established protocols. The board reiterated its commitment to following human resource management policies for succession planning, according to a statement released to media outlets.
Claims circulating online suggested Njiraini found his office locked with changed keys and a notice indicating his term had ended. Muthaura refuted these allegations, asserting the board maintains full confidence in Njiraini and that no operational vacuum exists. He noted the senior leadership team is prepared to continue fulfilling its responsibilities.
Njiraini, who previously served as Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, played a key role in expanding tax compliance among Members of Parliament. Appointed as KRA commissioner in 2012 by then-Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, his seven-year term will conclude in June 2019.
