A Nairobi family has accused a church associated with David Owuor of exploiting their sister's assets, alleging she is under restrictive control and her property was seized.
The siblings claim Jane Njagi, a former partner at J M Njagi Advocates, has been unwell and struggles with memory. They say the Kings Outreach Church has taken over her properties, including a Riverside Drive home, which they allege was converted into the church's headquarters.
Relatives report being barred from visiting Njagi at her Westlands apartment, with guards stating she was asleep. Her sister Alice Macharia revealed that Njagi was kept unaware of their mother's death until her brother presented a newspaper obituary.
A church representative, lawyer Kimani Watenga, stated Njagi is a bishop who retired from law to focus on ministry. He claimed her son was healed through prayer and that she voluntarily donated her home for Bible study. However, the family disputes this, asserting the church occupied the property without consent.
Lily Muthoni Macharia, a church member living with Njagi, defended her actions, saying she managed the sister's finances to prevent exploitation. She claimed this was done voluntarily and in good faith.
The church denied seeking control of Njagi's assets, stating it would vacate premises upon her instructions.
