A Nigerian woman was detained at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on March 3, 2019, after customs officials discovered packets of suspected narcotics concealed in milk bottles. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrest via social media, identifying the suspect as 25-year-old Princess Okoye.
According to the DCI's statement, Okoye was found carrying 77 pellets of suspected narcotics hidden within two milk bottles. "Upon being placed under observation, she emitted an additional 15 pellets," the report noted. The suspect was apprehended while preparing to board a flight to Italy.
This arrest follows a separate drug seizure on February 25, 2019, when detectives recovered heroin valued at Sh1.5 million at the same airport. The contraband, intended for Guinea, had been disguised as a generator spare part.
Recent data from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse reveals 24,500 drug addicts in Mombasa alone, highlighting the scale of the crisis. Airport authorities have reported multiple arrests in Nairobi and across the country amid ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.
