A 25-year-old Nigerian woman was detained at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on March 3, 2019, after authorities discovered 77 packets of suspected narcotics concealed in two milk bottles, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed.
The suspect, identified as Princess Okoye, was reportedly preparing to board a flight to Italy when airport security intercepted her. The DCI's statement revealed that she secreted 77 pellets of contraband, with an additional 15 discovered after she was placed under observation.
This arrest follows a separate February 25, 2019, operation where detectives seized heroin valued at Sh1.5 million at the same airport. The narcotics, destined for Guinea, had been disguised as a generator spare part, according to the DCI.
Kenya's drug enforcement agencies have intensified operations at major ports of entry, amid rising concerns over substance abuse. The National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse reported 24,500 drug-dependent individuals in Mombasa alone, highlighting the scale of the crisis nationwide.
Okoye remains in custody as investigators determine the full scope of her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
