U.S. stock markets retreated on Monday as construction spending dropped unexpectedly in December, signaling a slowdown in economic activity at the end of 2018. The Commerce Department reported a 0.6% decline in construction spending for December, following an unrevised 0.8% rise in November.
By 10:10 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was flat at 0.00, the S&P 500 gained 7.61 points (0.27%) to 2,811.30, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 28.80 points (0.38%) to 7,624.16.
