Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) investor wealth reached Sh2.3 trillion on March 4, marking an increase from the previous Sh2.28 trillion valuation.
Trading volume opened at Sh273 million on the first day of the week, with 28 million shares exchanged. This represented a Sh433 million decline from Friday's turnover, which saw 18 million shares traded.
The NSE 20 Share Index declined, indicating slower activity among top 20 listed firms, while the NSE All Share Index (NASI) and NSE 25 Share Index both recorded gains.
Key Sector Performance ¶
The energy and petroleum sector dominated trading, accounting for 45.89% of daily turnover. Umeme traded 22 million shares valued at Sh120 million, with prices ranging between Sh5.30 and Sh6.30. KenGen closed 2.74% higher at Sh6.40, moving 604,000 shares worth Sh3.8 million.
Safaricom led the telecommunications sector, with 3.3 million shares valued at Sh88.6 million. Its shares traded between Sh26.05 and Sh26.55, representing 32.42% of the day's value.
The banking sector saw Sh37.8 million in transactions, 13.86% of total turnover. Standard Chartered Bank traded 82,000 shares for Sh16 million, while Equity Group Holdings fell 35 cents to Sh40.60, moving 252,000 shares worth Sh10 million.
Other sectors showed smaller activity, with the commercial and services sector recording Sh3.5 million in trades and the insurance sector reporting Sh12.9 million, led by Kenya-Re's Sh9.3 million in 674,000 shares.
The manufacturing and allied sector saw Sh3 million in transactions, while E.A Breweries traded 13,000 shares at Sh2.7 million.
