Arson investigators are probing the destruction of the principal's office at Wathituga Secondary School in Sweet Waters, Laikipia Central, following a fire that caused significant damage on Saturday.

Estimated losses from the blaze include Sh500,000 in property damage and the destruction of a 10,000-liter water tank, according to local authorities. A hooded individual is suspected of starting the fire, which occurred after construction workers had left the school premises.

Three female students were tending to an agricultural project when they spotted flames and alerted authorities, said County Commissioner Onesimus Musyoki. He noted that community members assisted in extinguishing the fire, which began around 5 p.m.

County Criminal Investigations Officer Muinde Mwau confirmed investigators are seeking a hooded suspect seen fleeing the scene. "We have not yet made any arrests," Mwau stated, urging residents to provide any relevant information to aid the inquiry.
