Judy Wangui, Joseph Kori's girlfriend, and taxi driver Michael Githae appeared in Kiambu High Court on March 4, 2019, where they entered not guilty pleas to charges of murdering Kori's wife, Mary Wambui. The defendants denied allegations that they jointly killed Wambui on January 26 at Fourways Junction estate along Kiambu Nairobi Road, with others not present in court.
The pair had been detained for 30 days while investigators completed their probe. Judge Christine Meoli scheduled a bail hearing and pre-trial conference for March 8. Kori, initially a suspect in the case, was released from police custody on February 21 after three weeks of detention when authorities found no evidence linking him to the murder.
Wambui's body was discovered floating in a dam in Juja, Kiambu county, with fatal head injuries caused by a pressure cooker. Her funeral took place in Mweiga, Nyeri, over the weekend following the arraignment.
