Letshego clinched the 2019 Standard Chartered Road to Anfield trophy following a 3-2 penalty shootout victory over Capital, overcoming a 1-1 draw in regular time that echoed the intensity of the 2017 tournament.
The win marks the first championship for the team in the five-a-side competition, ending a streak of semifinal exits in the previous three editions of the event.
As champions, Letshego will travel to England in May for a four-day trip to represent Kenya at the international finals at Anfield, home of Liverpool FC. The team will also attend a Premier League match between Liverpool and Wolverhampton and participate in a training session with Reds legends and coaches.
The 2019 tournament featured a record 51 teams competing for Kenya's sole qualification spot in the global event. The Standard Chartered Road to Anfield initiative, part of a long-term partnership between the bank and Liverpool FC, originated from a 2009 sponsorship deal—the club's largest commercial agreement to date—which began in 2010 with the bank's branding on Liverpool's jerseys.
