Thousands of delegates have assembled in Kirinyaga County for the sixth annual Devolution Conference, set to commence with President Uhuru Kenyatta's opening address on March 5, 2019.
The event will bring together approximately 6,000 participants, including President Kenyatta, Deputy William Ruto, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, all 47 county governors, and Members of County Assembly (MCAs). Key agenda items include reviewing progress under the Big Four Agenda and exploring strategies for economic development through trade, manufacturing, and job creation.
MCAs attending the conference emphasized their focus on optimizing devolution funds and combating corruption. Majority Leader Moses Ndungu of Nakuru County stated, "We aim to discuss how allocated resources can advance the president’s Big Four agenda and learn from other counties’ experiences in implementing devolution effectively."
Discussions will also address trade and manufacturing initiatives designed to enhance product value addition and generate employment opportunities for Kenya’s working-age population by 2022.
